いつ終わるかわからない作業：訳文の再点検（３４）
「キップス」の邦訳につき、ペンギン・クラシクスの注部分をチェックする作業の続き。

第５節にはいった。

キップスの横の席には若い女中がいて、ハッカドロップをなめており、それと鼻をすする小さい男の子がいて、その目があちこちに走ってキップスが時おり笑うのはなぜかを知りたがっていることを示し、御者の横にはゲートルを履いた二人の若者がいて、靴紐の「てんし」（端子）について話していた。
注は'tegs'はただ羊sheepと言い換える。tegには生後２年目の羊の意味があり、これに従うと手元のイタリア語版（Valentiana Capocci訳Lavinia Emberti Gialloreti編）の若い羊"ovini giovani"のような訳語になる。この時期の羊はもはや子羊ではないそうだ。

拙訳ではtagsと読みaiglet (shoelace tags)のことと考えた。考え過ぎ。
