昨日の作業から

これが、ある人のはじめての記事入力なのだが、今回は唐突に、昨日の作業から、印象に残っている要注意箇所をメモ。

Elementary school

今ではイギリスの小学校はこうは呼ばないらしい。物語では19世紀のことなので制度が違うのだ。

少なくともキップスの親友シドはelementary schoolに行っていた。それが最終学歴であるような印象だが本当だろうか。物語のそのあたりの設定ではたぶん、キップスは十四歳くらい。その時点では、もう学校には行っていないらしいが、それほど前のことでもない印象で、本当に小学校かなあ。

そう気になるところはある人の底本で46ページ、wikisourceでは

キップスが、シドとの学校の格の違いにこだわっている感じに読める。キップスの学校も elementary schoolという風に今のところある人には読めるけれど、確信はない。

ある日本人の英語

So this has been my first entry. I just noted a couple points where I can easily be wrong in the interpretation from my private task from yesterday. What am I talking about?  I have not explained yet what I am up to in the first place.  I hope I can make up for this serious defect along the way in my future entries.
