 Kipps: The Story of a Simple Soulには「one and twenty」（二十一）のような数字の言い方が出てくる。

これは、西暦1700年ごろ以前の古風な数え方らしいのだが、年齢や時間については、地方により現在も（少なくとも三十年くらい前には）使う人がいると言う。コナン・ドイルのシャーロック・ホームズから（年齢、時間の両方の場合を含め）用例を挙げている人もいるから、原書で読んでいる方にはお馴染みかもしれない。
