He wandered about the corridors for a time and watched the library indicator for awhile.
少し廊下をぶらつき、それからライブラリ・インジケータという図書表示棚をしばらくながめた。
注はLibrary Indicator（ペンギン・クラシクスでは頭字が大文字）の定義。ボードと言っているので拙訳の「図書表示棚」とは別種のもの（Cotgreave Indicator）か？

その部屋のみすぼらしい寄せ集めをながめた。ランプが置かれグラスの跡で汚れたやぶれた赤いテーブルクロスの掛かった丸テーブル、ランプを映し反射する暖炉の上のぶち模様の鏡、使われなくなったガス灯ブラケット、火の消えた暖炉、鏡のまわりに貼った多数の埃まみれのはがきとメモ、炉棚の上のキャビネ判の写真もたくさん入れてある埃まみれのごったがえしの紙か新聞のラック、書類やタバコの灰、ソーダ水のサイフォンの散らかったテーブル。

Whiskey there is, good old Methusaleh, Canadian Rye, and there's some brandy that's all right.
ウィスキーなら古き良きメスーゼラ、カナダのライだ。それに少しブランデーもあって、まあいいやつだ。
注はMethuselah（引用の底本は綴りが異なる）が創世記5:22-27の長寿者であり、ここではウィスキーの年季かあるいは量の大なることに因むアイロニー的名称、注14も見よ旨いう。
