金があれば一流クラブにはいれるという話の場面。
And the girl in the laces who had acquired a cynical view of Modern Society from the fearless exposures of Miss Marie Corelli, said, "Money goes everywhere nowadays, Mr. Kipps."
それにレース売場の女の子で、マリー・コーレリの大胆不敵な暴露物を通じて冷笑の目で現代社会を見るようになった人が言った。「キップスさん、このご時世、お金があればどうにでもなるのよ」
注は人名解説。特に文脈に関係すると思われる作品を指摘。
上巻６章注１７のある文（currs）
"Go to Oireland. Ut's the loveliest country in the world. Outside currrs. Fishin', shootin', huntin'. An' pretty gals! Eh! You should see the Lakes of Killarney, Mr. Kipps!"
「アイルランドに行きなさいよ。世界で一番すてきな国よ。のら犬たちを除けば。魚を釣ったり、獲物を撃ったり、狩ったり。それにきれいな女の子。ああ。キップスさん、キラーニの湖は見なくてはいけませんよ」
注はcurrs（ペンギン・クラシクスはrが２つに修正）は沼（bogs）のこと、という。
ウェールズ語にcorsがあり沼（単数）。おそらくこれと同系のことばであろう。古アイルランド語curchasやラテン語carex（葦）に由来するとか。cors - Wiktionary
引用文中のrを重ねた表記は巻き舌を表現したに過ぎないと考えれば拙訳のようにcursと読む可能性も考えられる。cur - Wiktionary

「店など、きゅっとしめて犬にくれてやれ」と。彼は、さらに不平を言うようにコルク栓抜きでワイヤを切れるやつを要求した。
注はgruntulousはウェルズの造語とし、gruntと言い換え。
