「キップス」の邦訳につき、ペンギン・クラシクスの注部分をチェックする作業の続き。

第３節にはいった。
A rapid succession of brisk movements on the part of everyone, and they were all four at dinner—the fourth person being Master Walt Whitman Pornick, a cheerful young gentleman of one and a half, who was given a spoon to hammer on the table with to keep him quiet, and who got "Kipps" right at the first effort and kept it all through the meal, combining it first with this previous acquisition, and then that.

Horn....
部屋の家具は、食卓での賑やかなやりとりを除けば別段の注意を引くものではなかったが、キップスはそのきれいに見えたことには感心した。賑やかな平皿やマグなどの食器棚が奥にあり、壁にはウォルター・クレインの労働の日のポスターがあり、ガラスを通してショップドアの目隠しカーテン越しに覗くのは、明るい色彩の自転車販売業者の広告カード、それに棚いっぱいのラベルつきケース、ラベルには、パラゴン・ベル、スカラム・ベル、パテント・オミなんていうのがあり、それに、警笛・・・
注９は人名説明。

But the plain fact is the times are out of joint, and money—money, like everything else, is a deception and a disappointment."
しかし、ありていにいえば、この時世はガタガタに混乱していて、貨幣は―貨幣は、ほかのすべてと同様に、まやかしであり、期待を裏切るものなのだ。
注は下線部がthe time is out of joint（シェークスピア「ハムレット」）に由来するという。

そしてニューヨークでは、社会のペットが小麦の買占めをしている。
注はcorner in wheatについて買い占めること、という。これはおそらくmaking a cornerについての注。

ロウには馬に乗って行く者が少数あり、馬車はときどき車道を急いで通り過ぎ、最初の婚約したときのウォルシンガムへの訪問でキップスが採用したスタイルの服装のグループや単独の人々が大きいツツジや月桂樹の間や緑の芝生の上にいる。
