チェック。turn backは、たいてい「引き返す」

turn backは、「追い払う」みたいな意味もあるようだが、たいていは、「引き返す」つまり、来た過程を逆に辿り（始める）か、そうさせるという意味らしい。こういうと例外がある可能性があってはばかられるけれど、基本的に「振り返る」の意味はなさそうだ。ある人は、これまで認識不足だった。

Kippsから簡単に見つかる部分を引用する。訳例も付す。三つめは「振り返った」でもいいのかもしれない。イタリア語訳はむしろ、そんな感じ（voltò）になっている*1。
